February 2024 Annual Member Meeting

Meeting Materials

Meeting was called to order at 6:30 and quorum was established with 56 members in attendance and 26 proxies for non-attending members. Tom Bowles began with opening remarks and reviewed the agenda. He thanked the members of the Board, ECC, and Welcoming Committee for their volunteer service.

  • ECC: Cheryl Gerger, Darrell Gettman, Dave Jacobs, Sid Raines, Ron VanZandt

  • Welcoming Committee: Becky Bowles, Laurie Jacobs

Candidates for the new Board of Directors provided introductions. Members had the opportunity to ask questions

The founders of Maverix Broadband attended. They discussed their history and passion for bringing high-speed internet to Douglas and Elbert counties. After reviewing their technology & network capabilities, they discussed pricing and installation. They are currently in the planning and permitting process with Douglas County, and have a tentative timeline of Fall 2024 for installation in Franktown.

Ginney Regan reviewed the Treasurer’s Report, including the Financial Summary and status of Fire Mitigation reimbursements.

Tom provided an update on behalf of the Welcoming Committee. 2023 was the most stable year for property owner turnover since 2018, with only 7 properties sold.

The ECC is looking for additional volunteers. Please contact the Board if you are interested. Recent ECC “drive around” compliance results were also reviewed.

Lash Russell provided an update on the Fire Mitigation program. Wait list space is available for group 6. $219k or 46% of the grant has been utilized across the first four mitigation groups. During the discussion, multiple property owners reported that their insurance provider has required them to complete fire mitigation.

Larry Falter reviewed Colorado state proposed “Land Use” Authority legislation and its potential impact on population density in our area.

Diana Love, President of Franktown Citizen’s Coalition, discussed ongoing litigation that impacts water rights to the Upper Dawson, which is our groundwater source. She requested support at upcoming oral arguments at the Colorado Supreme Court.
